TROOPS WITH A GLORIOUS RECORD.
When the history of the war conies to he written, and "especially that part of it which is being played on the Tigris, it will be found that no hour of British troops will have earned :i more glorious record than those which form the 13th IVvision. Turkish accounts of the Battle of Felahr/eh, uh'ch must not be accepted without count, are no doubt correct in the statement that it was once more the 13 th that "bore the brunt of the fighting and suffered mos severely before the enemy trenches. In the imperishable record of British vaJonr we need but go back to August last to find one of the hrghtcst pages for historians to write. This was the work of the 13th Division at Galh'poli, described W.th much graphic detail hy S : r lan Hamil ton in his despatch. No troops could occupy a nobler place in any roll if honour. In the fighting on the Chuiiuk Bair these heroes of the New Army lost 6,000 out of 10,500 men. The North Lancashire* were overwhelmed by sheer weight of numbers, the W:lish'res wer literally almost annihilated ''Our men stood to it and maintained the old tradition of their race, 'fftenwas no flinching. They died in t heranks where they stood." What a brave p'cture for the brush of anaarctict ctic genius!—they "Died where the/ stood."
