CINEMAS IN CHURCH.
WHY NOT ILLUSTRATED LECTURES OK CHUHCH HISTORY? " Is there any reason why the Chuvcii should not use the cinema !'" The question is asked by the writer of an article in the ''Church Times." "If Sunday evening lectures or readings on Church history, illustrated hv moving pictures," continue'- the writer. "came to be a feature of our propaganda work, we need not be a'armed at the development of Sunday cinema*." Interviewed by the "Daily Mirror" on tin; question, Cj'hoii J. Hasloch Potter, vicar of Surbiton, said : " 1 feel that if such a thing were done it shr.nld lie after tlu> evening service. " I feel strongly that there can he a distinct educational—and even spiritu-al—-power in the films, and I should lik" tn see a committer of prominent Ciiurchmen summoned to discuss the details of the scheme.'' Rev. H. R. Gamble, vicar of Ho'v Trinity, Upper Chelsea, said : "1 do not think there is anv harm in the proposal so long as the lectures were not given in church. " Picture shows should be confined to mission halls or schoolrooms. I think t'hey are entirely out of place in cou-f.ecr-ted buildings."
