GILBERT'S THIRD ESCAPE FROM CAPTIVITY.
Eugene Gilbert, the popular FrencQ airman, lias a third time escape!. Gilbert was obliged to land on Swi-s territory alter a successful air raid on the Zeppelin works at Friedrichshafen, and was interned on parole. Last Aug. ust he escaped nto France, hut was obliged to return to captivity owing to the fact that the letter 'n which he notified the Swiss military authoriti»s that he would take back his parole was received afer he bad made his escape. His second attev.pt to regain liberty was made la.st February, when, with a fellow-prisoner. Gilbert got as far as 01 ten, where the fugitives were discov. ered by gendarmes and sent back to custody. Sine? t*hen Gilbert has been watched strict'y day and night, as he was no longer considered a prisoner on narole.
Gilbert's escape from the barracks in Zurich, where he was last interned, was mad.- in the small hours of the morning by sliding down through a ventilator and gaining the courtyard. Ihe journey to France was accomplislied in a friend'* motor, which was awaiting the fugitive. The exact whereabouts of Gilbert are not known, but he is generally supposed to be lying low in a surburban refuge prepared jn advance, where his wife has gone to join him. Meanwhile Swiss sentinels are looking for him a'ong the frontiers, and are holding up tourists, including women, as on tlie last occasion Gilbert disguised himself in female dress.
