The pi ,posal, put forward by the \ustrahan Commonwealth, that kaser Wiljielm's Land, the German portion oi' New Guinea now in our occupation. shall be renamed, is a reminder t.iat other considerable portions oi tlio earth's surface may undergo a similar ciiansio when we win t-lie war. For instance, there is Bismarck Archipelago, ceded by England to German V in 1884. Ims is now held by us and it is verv unlikely that the island group will refa ; u its present native much longer. Probably it will be changed to New Britain, which was what it «as cai'ed before we surrendered it. Curiously enough one ot .the largest islands in the archipelago was christened New Hanover bv ourselves, a nany which it still retains. Thus, too, w'H have to go. We want no names reminiscent of the Hun on our maps nowadays, nor hereafter. Then there is Kaiser Tvilhehn U. Land, situated in the Antarctic Continent. This may well go the way ot the other German overseas for although it is of little use to anybody just at present, being covered al. over with an ice-cap a mile or so tlmk. one n."ver knows what the future ma bring forth.
