WEYMOUTH.

PRIVATE McLEOD FARE . WELLED.

There was a large assemblage at a function in the Public Hall on Friday evening last, when Private P. McLtod, who has enlisted, was tendered a farewell in the form of a concert and dance. Proceedings opened with a stirring address delivered by the Rev. W. C. Wood, in which he reminded his hearers that the 4th August next would mark the second anniversary of Britain's declaration of war on Germany, and alluded to the present magnitude of Britain's Army, which in its earlier stages was referred to in bombastic fashion by the Kaiser as " Britain's contemptible little army." In de-1 precating the attitude taiken up by religious objectors, he said that the man who claimed exemption on religious grounds should not live it the country that afforded him shelter brought about by the war. The man who did that, he added, was only taking advantage of a mean and contemptible beiief. Continuing, he said that had Britain's sailors been religious objectors instead of fighters New Zealand would to-day have been a German colony. Musical items were rendered by Mesdames P. Roy and J. McGrail, and Messrs T. C Seaton, A. G. Mabee, G. F. Druce and C. Hawthorn, while recitations were given by Mefsis T. J. Corin and Falls, the accompaniments being supplied by Mr SeatoD, while those for the dance were provided by Mr P. A. Nield. Mr P. Roy officiated as chairman, and Mr McGrail as M.C. During the proceedings the guest of the evening was handed a valuable wristlet watch.
