HUN PAPERS ARE GETTING FEWER.
FOUR THOUSAND HAVE CEASED PUBLICATION.
In all countries now at war the lack of paper has caused newspapers ant magazines either to stop circulation altogether or cut down their size considerably. Since the beginning of the war quite a number of papers in England alone have stopped, the last ond most famous being the London "Standaid. In France the paper famine is very serious. Many French newspapers have not contained more than two or four pages for months, while, of course a large number have stopped. But German newspapers have been more affected by the paper shortage than aijy others. More than 4,000 have ceased publication till the war is ovei; while all the remainder have increased their subscription rates by 20 per cent. \nother cause besides the shortage or paper which has stopped German newspapers is the fact that they have to supplv huge quantities of copies free ot charge to the German troops fighting in France and Russia. This has proved much too heavy an expense to many Journalists are, indeed, in a very bad way in Germany.
