TUAKaU TOWN 130AED. All the members of the Tuakau Town Board were present at a meeting held on Tuesday evening last when consideration was given to the allocations of proposed loan expenditure for various streets and roads in the Town Board District, as submitted by the Board's Consulting Engineer, Mr J. Boutley, viz : A : Grade, form kerb and channel, asphalt footpaths and macadam the following: George street from the railway to the saleyards ; Liverpool street; Bollard road to the southern side of. the road through Mr A.
Madill's subdivision, £2400. He hoped to be able to do the work from the railway station to the cross road at Messrs Pirrit Bros, in tarred macadam.
B : George street from the saleyards to the town district boundary : grade, form, bridge, culvert, gravel footpath and metal 1 Gft wide. This
work will include cutting on the cross road south of the English Church and also on Dromgool's road. C : Cole's road, metal £SO. D : Whangarata road, from junction with George street, grade and metal, £250. E : The road through Mr Madill's subdivision from Bollard road : kerb, channel, footpath and metal, £250.
F : The road to the cheese factory and Capt. Eyder's, form and metal, £4OO.
(J : Dominion road, grade, culvert, foerthpath and metal, £IOOO. H: Harrisville road, grade, bridge, culvert, footpath and metal, £I4OO.
I: Bollard road, footpath formation, gravelling, etc, £3OO. J: In reserve for contingencies, £650, making a total of £IO,OOO. The forgoing .figures did not include anything for work involved by overhead bridge construction at the railway crossing. The matter was fully gone into, the whole of the ovening, from 7.45 p.m. to 11 p m , with a /ew exceptions, being taken up, and a Finance Committee, consisting of the chairman, Mr Dynes Fulton, and Messrs Free and Craig was depu'el t) interview Mr liou'ly in Auckland with a view of having alterations and additions made to the allocations and the same to be further considered at a special meeting.
As the result of a communication received from the Board's solicitors, Messrs Endean and Holloway, the question of meeting the claims of witnesses in the recont action, Miss Taylor v. the Town Board was also discussed, and the matter referred back to the solicitors.
Matters appertaining to the recent Patriotic Carnival were considered at a meotiug of tlio Patriotic League held on Monday last, the president, Mr W. Graham, presiding. On the secretary, Mr J. (Juinlan, presenting an inteiim balance sheet, showing that the net profits from the function would amount to £IOO, thosewho assisted to such a successful end were commended for their efforts and it was resolved on the proposal of Mr 1). Fulton to donate the sums of £SO and £25 to the British Navy League and the Belgian Relief Funds respectively. The question of arranging for a suitable reception to Tiooper Bas'l Scanlon, who recently returned invalided from the front and has since been .discharged, was taken up by members Jipd it was decided to hold.

I Mr John Grant's sen ices in connection with the recent Carnival were much appreciated by those taking part in the fucction, as the stalls | which he erected were most suitable for the occasion and further added to the pleasant general effect in the hall. The purchase of a one-acre section on Liverpool road from Mr J. Henderson was complete 1 on Tuesday last, when Mr P. A. Eowe cime into possession of the same, the price paid being £22-3, which augurs well for the district. A building permit for the erection of a five roomed dwelling, to bo iitted with hot and cold water and tho "Wizard" light, was granted Mr Eowe at Tuesday's meeting of the Town Boaid, so carpenters, working under the direction of Mes-r.s Wood bridge and Son, who have been given the order to build the house, should be at work on the job at an early date. As there are two thoroughfares'in Tuakau bearing tho name " Liverpool " tho choice of a su tablo namo to replace "Liverpool road" was | left by the T-own Board to Mr J. Henderson, who has selected the word "Anzac." Local "boys" attached to the Infantry Section of the 16th Eeinforcements, and who are now spending their final leave in Tuakau, aro Eiflemen J. Taylor, C. Lindner, A. Clark, E. Gibson and J. Morgon. A held service card received by Mr Chas. Eehall from Signaller Geo. T. Poole, ol the 12th Eeinfoicaments, who at the time of enlisting was a 1 member of the clerical staff at the j local railway station, goes to show ' that the writer was fit and well.
