PAPAKURA.

The concert held under the auspices of the Papakura Patriotic League in the Methodist School? room on Friday evening last, was highly sucesestul in every way, the seating accommodation being taxed to its utmost and a net profit amounting to at least £l4 being secure;*. All the items with the exception of those given by Miaa Laura W3lker, Auckland, were rendered by visitors from Manurewa, the programme consisting of part songs by tbe Manurewa Mubical Society; trio by Messrs Beil, Burton and Horsfall; duet hy Mrs W. laylur and Mr A. G. Mabte; sulop, Misi Laura Walker and Mr A. G. Mabec; humoroaa solo by Mr H. V. Burton; violia solo hy Mrs G. Marsetfs; moncl by Messrs J. T. Corin and El. V. Burton. During th° interval Mr A. Willis gave a resume ot the Society's woik, Bho*inn that up to the erd of Juoe they had collected £I2OO. At the conclusion of tlis entertainment the Rev. W. C. Wood thanked the pe formers for the pleasure they had provided. The ball waß kmdl» 1 nt free trr the occasion by the Methodist fraternity. On Welntsday evening last a ronqert and dacca arranged hy the Papakura bowling Club was he Id in the Parish Hall, ar.d the prizes won during the season were presented by the president, Mr E. D. McLennan. There was a very fair attendance, and a ausical programme wps ot a high standard, and was ontributetl to by Mis 3 McCarthy, violin, Mns L. Baker, euitar, and T. C. Seaton, T. J. Coiin, H. V. Burton acd A. G. Mabce. Dancing followed, and supper was provided by the ladies. The duties of M.C. were carried out hy Mr A. J. Dawson Madill has accepted a call from [the S. Andrew's Pre hyterian r Church, Stratford, for wlich destination he leave?, trgether wilh Mrs Madill and family, on tbe 15th August. As the result of an effort by the pupils attending the Public Hcohol, £4 2a and two seeks of tottlcs were last week forwarded to Auckland for the Beligan Relief Fund. The district at the present time is suffering from ?n epidemic of complaints and infectious casss. Messrs A. Smith and R. Gillespie are recovering from attacks of quinsey, while "little" Emily Mack, a daughter of Mr 1. Mack, was removed in an ambulance to the tever ward at the Auckland Hospital yesterday, with scarlet fever. Mr McNally, of Auckland, has disposed of his 70-acre dairy farm at a very satisfactory price to Mr Murrell, of Auckland, and a 52-acre farm at Ardmore, together with the stock, was taken over yesterday from Mr H. Widdup by aMr Robinson, of Newton, Auckland. Two very impoitant works, viz., forming the footpath opposite Mr A. Willis' property on the Great South i.;ad and th?. footpath in Kanfurly road, are being proceeded with by the Town Board.

The death occurred in the Auckland Public Hospital yesterday morning of Mis Daisy Mills, wife of Mr L. J. Mills. The deceased lady had been in the h spittil for some little time, during wbich she underwent several operations. She was a daughter of Mr Lowp, a former licensee of the PBpakura Hotel, and was !i3 years ol age. She leaves eix children. The funeral took place this afternoon, the cuitege leavirg deceased's late home at 2.U0 p.m. for tte Papakura Public Cemetery.
