A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT.

Soldiers Farewelled.

The concert given by the Pukekohe Pierrots on Tuesday night at the Premier Hall, in aid of the funds of the Soldiers' Farewell Committee, was on account of the boisterious weather only moderately attended. It speaks volumes for the talent of the young people of Pukekohe, under the capable management of Mr D. Elms-Hird, that such an enjoyable evening was spent by those who braved the elemeuts to be present. The programme consisted of 25 items, all of which were well rendered and from start to fiuish the entertainment went with a swing that would have done credit to a professional company. Opportunity of the occasion was taken to farewell Sergt. Brunette, L.-Corp. McEvoy, Privates Rowe and Elton, who were in Pukekohe on final leave. At the end of the first part of the programme the Mayor, Mr H. Or. R. Mason, briefly addressed the men and on behalf of the citizens presented each of them with a ■wristlet watch.—A. letter of apology was read from Private McDivett, who was unable to attend.

The Soldiers' Farewell Committee whose duty it is to see that all men enlisting from Pukekohe leave our town with the good wishes of the citizens conveyed to them, are urgently in need of funds to carry out their work, as it is their aim to give each man a small gift from the citizens as a souvenir from the district he enlisted. Through the kindness of the Piewots the finances of the Committee will be considerrbly assisted, though a further appeal to the public will have to be made as time goes on. The proceeds of Tuesday night's concert were augmented by a contribution of £ I from a sympathiser. Such spontaneous offer of financial assistance is very much appreciated by the Committee. Other citizens might follow this example and thus show appreciation for the noble sacrifice being made by those enlisting-
