Hundreds ot; thousands of mules have been bought, ior, since mule-breeding js not carried on n the United Kingdom, it follows that this indispensablo beast of transport had to b, l purchased in groat numbers abroad. Irom one firm alone in the United States 120,(,:)0 mules and 60,000 horses have been bought. This film, at the present time, is employing 500 buyers to cover practically e'verv State in the Union, and the proprietors claim that it is possible to* stable and feed daily 102,000 bend ol' horses and mules on their premises. Mn; chief headquarters of this firm -Messrs. Guyton and Harrington, is at Kansas City. During the Boer War this firm sold the British Government *>,023 horses. That was in 1901-2, and during the same period it sold to it? regular trade 50,385 head of stock.
