PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.
Monthly Meeting.
The above authority held its usual monthly meeting on Monday night, the members present being Messrs 1). Stewart (chairman), 1). W. Jones, T. D. Campbell, R. Mears, J. Bates, A, Wallis and Wm Crawford together with the clerk, Mr H. W. Geissler. STORM WATER TROUBLE. Messrs J. B. Pulham and 1) McFarland, Wood Street, Papakura, waited on the Board and complained of storm water from roads under the Board's jurisdiction passing over their property. The chairman said that the Board would endeavour to have the matter attended to and it was decided that the locality should be viewed.
"ATTENTION PLEASE !" Mr A. AVillis wrote as follows : Some time ago I presented a petition to your Board from a number of residents living in the vicinity of Queen Street asking for some improvements to be carried out before the winter. The season is how getting on, and we hope you will be able to do something for us. I have alau to remind you that nothing has yet been done to the footpath near our business premises, the front of which is in an almost unsightly state. One of the Board's water-tanks is leaking near tbe bottom and we cannot supply any water to the drinking trough till it is repaired. I also respectfully ask that something be done to the footpath on the Great South road, from the Library on. No public money has ever been spent on the footpath beyond the library, so I think we are entitled to something being done, especially as tbe County Council intend forming the footpath further on. 1 also noticed when it was raining on Saturday that the pipe on tbe South road, at the intersection of Wellington street, ib blocked." The chairman reported that work on Queen street was nearly finished, and it was arranged to inspect it with a view ot passing it. He also reported that tbe tank bad been replaced with a new one and pipes laid on Wellington street. The footpath near Messrs Willis Bros', was to be attended to. No reference, however, was made to the suggestion in regard to the footpath on the Great South road. THE SALEYARDS.
On the 20th April the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company notified the Board ot thier intention to remove the ealeyards from Papakura shortly, and suggested that in tbe event of a decision being arrived at to act immediately that it would be scarcely worth while removing their otiicc, adjoining the saleyards. In a further communication, dated iUtb May, it was stated that the matter was being fully gone into and that they hoped something definite would be arranged in the near future. —Both letters were received.
CEMETERY SECTIONS. Mr J. Stanton, Auckland, who is acting on behalf of the Board in reapect to their request tor power to lease portions of the cemetery endowment tor building purposes, wrote stating that the secretary of tbe Department of Lands and Survey had been requested to furnish a report thereoc.—The letter waß received.
MISCELLANEOUS As it was alleged that the trees on the railway reserve, in front of Mr Hampton's residence, were daDgerous, it was decided to inspect them witn a view of their removal. it was resolved that in the event ot the acetylene lamp, which is to be erected at the junction of Clevedon and Settlement roads, proving satisfactory, a similar one should be erected at the water trough in the township. It was alßo decided that Knuselle street should be inspected with a view to passing the work recently finished thereon. It was arranged to call tenders for improving Park road and its footpaths. The clerk was instructed to order two trucks of metal and three trucks of tine scoria.
