"NEPTUNE'S DAUGHTER."
Annette Kellerman, the famous Australian, who created and plays the role of Annette, the mermaid, in the spectacular picture-play, " Neptune's Daughter," which will be screened at the Premier Hall, Pukekohe, next Monday night, has won the reputation of being the most remarkable woman among the galaxy of stars known in the picture-world to-day. For mouths prior to the making of this drama of the sea, the producing managers were unable to secure a star with the great varsatility necessary for the role of " Neptune's Daughter." The part called for au actress who could swim and dive as the mermaid, yet who possessed a strong enough dramatic temperament to fill the teuse situations that occur when she becomes a mortal maiden. The only name that suggested itself was that of Anuette Kellerman, aud accordingly the representative of one of the largest him companies in America journeyed to Loudon, and tendered her au oiler to appear in the most remarkable dual character ever allotted to a picture artist. After Miss Kellerman had consented, 200 artists were selected and transported to the Bermuda Islands, where the film was made and where the hundreds of supernumeraries required were engaged.
The usual monthly meeting of the Pukekohe P.S.A. is to be held on Sunday afternoon next, when the Rev. J. B. Suckling will speak on "The True Imperialism." Tho tension that has been in existence between the Pukekohe School Committee and the officials of the Education Board in regard to the conduct of the local technical and continuation classes reached a settlement yesterday, when another conference was held between the Committee and Mr J. P. Kalaugher (Supervisor of Technical Education], the latter being accompanied by Mr E. K. Mulgan (Chief Inspector of Schools). Mr Kalaugher informed the Committee that since the last conference he had found that Mr Roadley, as secretary to the Advisory Board, duly notified him in June last that the School Committee had taken over the duties of the Advisory Board and it was his (Mr Kalaugher's) oversight that the Committee had not since been communicated therewith, Mr Roadley's letter having escaped attention. On Mr Kalaugher's suggestion, an arrangement was come to that existing appointments should remain in force for the current session, the Committee to be cousulted before appointments were made for next year.
