PAPAKURA.
A correspondent writes:—The penny wise and ponud foolith policy that the Town Board Lave adopted with lespect to the water channels on the Great South road is taxing the ratepayers' patience to an extraordinary degree. Eveay now and again a surfaceman may be seen cleaning the growth of grass from the channels, particularly the one on the opposite side of the road to the post office, in the vicinity of Mr Widdoweon's drapery shop, when by laying down a proper channel the nuisance could be overcome and the road naturally improved as a result. Aciing on medical advice the Rev. J. C. Madill, the pastor of the Papakura Presbyterian Church, has tendered his resignation after serv--ing a period of four years The rev. gentleman has been painstaking with regard to the progress of the Church aud has taken a kindly, spiritual interest in the children. He has, in addition, found time to act as chairman of the local School Committee, a position which he intends relinquishing next Menday. ♦
