TUESDAY, MAY 2, 1916 PATUMAHOE'S PROGRESS.
" We nothing extenuate, nor set down auaht in malice
The Hoii. W. Fraser (Minister for Public Works paid his first visit to the district yesterday since his elevation to Cabinet rank, the immediate object of the visit being for the purpose of viewing the works in operation on the Waiuku line. As a result the residents of Patumahoe were given the welcome assurance that probably by three months hence trains would be running from Paerata as far as Patumahoe. The forebodings of certain croakers that the Waiuku railway would never become aa accomplished fact are therefore rudely shattered and it is certain that as the centre of a rich producing district Patumahoe will make the most of its railway facilities and will develop into an important township. ,To Cr Henry, perhaps more than to any other Patumahoe resident, credit is due for being the chief agency in securing official sanction for the work of expediting the construction of the line. Frequent and constant have been his representations on the subject to the authorities and it must be gratifying to him to know that his efforts will soon be rewarded by the locomotive's whistle being heard in Patumahoe. Incessant in other ways in promoting the district's development, Cr. Henry also yesterday secured the promise from the Minister tint the Government's grants for the local roads would be forthcoming to render everything complete for adequate access to the railway.
