MANUREWA.

Arrangements, following negotia- ' tions with the owners, have been entered into whereby some 700 acres | (a portion of which is in the Town t Board ore a) should shortly be placed on the market for sub-division and settlement. This area m itself is ( well over the size of a Town Board area, and seeing the land is most beautifully situated for close settlement, there is every possibility of | this block in the near future becom ing a township all on its own. There are medical men in the city who repeatedly advise city business men to reside in the suburbs. These professional men agree that the business part of the city, being in a hollow and near the sea, does not make for the best conditions of health. Therefore, after business hours a residence on high ground, and removed from salt water conditions (with changes of temperature) is far more healthy and desirable for the city business man. Between Green Lane and" Pukekohe, Manurewa is the highest point on the railway line, and the area that has been acquired for subdivision is at a higher altitude than the township. St. Luke's Ladies' Guild held a very successful fancy fair in the Public Hall on Wednesday last. The funds raised, close on £SO, were in aid of the building fund. Stalls were presided over by the following ladies Produce, Mesdames Archdale Taylor and C. F. Hesketh; < fancy stall, Mrs and Miss Wood; I flower stall, Mesdames Brown, W. Phillips and Miss Costar; Guild ] stall, Mesdames Kej es and Scott and < Miss Smith; post office, Misses L. j Lupton and B. Pennel; bran tub, < Misses Y. Warlich and D. Phillips; refreshments, Mesdames H. Ralls i and T. Eleinan, assisted by Misses 1 L. Keyes, J. Lupton, D. Eleman and i Miss Morgan. Ladies' nail driving t competitions were won by Mrs Ralls and Miss L. Lupton; gent's nail driving competition was won by Mr Mabee. The hall was most artistically decorated by Messrs Hawthorn, Lupton and Ralls. Great credit is j due to the ladies who have been j working for the success of the Fair J for over six months. ;

Polling for the seven seats on the newly-formed Manurewa Town Board is taking place to-day, and the fiist meeting of the Board is to be held on Thursday afternoon next.
