SINGLE MEN OF ALL CLASSES.
>l MVOXS EXPECTED. "tKiCT REVISION'. OVTCOME OF ANALYSIS BY t IUY COUNCIL. LC v DON, February 10. An u'.i'V.'. evted development is reported in •■•>.! «'tion with the coming into force or the Military Service Act. !t . ; understood, says, the Central '•■;ts that the War Ollicc proposes to tall up without further delay i.ll the losses of single men, and this M- p will be notified by Royj.l ri'.clan.ation, which will prob. ably be F.-i.tci in the course of this week. There has been considerable :- ctivity both at the War Office and the .Ministry of Munitions within the last, few days and no doubt this decision is- the result of joint consultation.
The call will affect the remaining single men both under the Derby Scheme and those who will come under iho operation of the new AcL It. -s thought possible that the first call to married men will come before Easter.
From Army Council iustiurtions which have been deceived at Birmingham it appears—as has been contended throughout by the advocates of voluntary service»-that the number 01' men available for military service, when all deductions have been made, is smaller than was hoped for by the authorities. This is perhaps the reason for the expected call to all the remaining single men. The main features of the now instructions are. as follows': The immediate result of the calling up of the first four groups has so far shown that only .a very small percentage of men in each of these groups b.TS been obtained. ItMvill therefore be necessary to revise continually the lists of nun left in each of the groups and classed that have been called up, with a view to obtaining in due course every available man for military service. It will not be necessary to attest these men. but only to enter the particulars concerning them on the enrolment form, Army form I! 2,512, which will shortly be 'se-ied to area commanders. Thin form will take the place of the attestation term at present it) use in the case of men who arc Table for service under the abovementioned Act.
