MANUREWA.
TOWN BOARD ELECTION. The progress of Manurewa is denoted by the establishmout of a Town Board, which will formally came into existence on Tuesday noxt, when the first election of seven members will take place. Manurewa is recognised as one of the most rising townships in the suburbs of Auckland, and it is fitting that in order to provide for satisfactory local government a Town Board should have been created. Mr M. H. Oram is the returning officer for the election, and ho las made all possible arrangements to enable electors to record their votos. The central polling booth will be at the Manurewa Public Hall, and for the convenience of city business men there will also be a polling booth at the Manukau County Council Office, City Chambers, Auckland. The polling hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. There are 262 nucnes on the electoral roll. For the B?ven seats to be filled fourteen candidates offer thoir services. Two, Meesrs G. E. Margetts and F. W. Wood, are running as "Independents," whilst rival " tickets " contain seven cindidate?, viz., Messrs 11. V. Burton, C. Coxhead, 0. Coxhead, T. J. Corin, E. 8. Teglor. H. Ralls and 0. Smith in one instance, and five in the other, viz , Messrs 11. Bull, J. H. Edwards, T. K. Gray. C. H. Lupton and F. E. White.
The first meeting of the new Boaid will be held on Thursday afternoon of next week.
In addition to the five retiring members, viz., Messrs W. Brown, C. Coxhead, G. F. Druce, Alex Muir and P. Poy, Mr W. R. Perry has been nominated for a seat on th'j Manurewa Road Board, thus necessitating a contest, Dolling for which will take place on Friday next. To-night Mossrs J. Freshnoy and B. McAnnally, who have enlisted, and Mr Kolly, who is leaving tho district, are to bo tendered a farowell socia l function.
The improvements boing effected on tho Groat South road by the Manukau County Council are greatly appreciated by the public, particularly those connected with the footpath. The advantages of tho sooria thereon will bo realised when winter arrives.
At tho Now Zealand Trotting Conference held at Chmtchurch on Tuesday last Mr Mabee was appointed a stipendiary steward at a foe of £lO por day. The following ladies and gentlemen have Lteou selected to take part in the Mock Town Board election to bo held this evening, viz.: —Misses A. Coxhead, M. Craig, D. Elleman, F. Freshnoy, D. Lovell, I. Pegler and D. Warbrick, and Mossrs R. Butterworth, 8. Craig, J, Coxhead, H. Jackson, G. Le Petit, B. Pegler and I). Warlick.
