TUAKAU SOUTH.

The School Committee elections have been all the topic .lately, but matters have now returned to normal. The popular ticket carried the day and it is to be hoped that all parties will now settle down and pull together and see ihat the district has justice done to it in the matter of school accommodation.

On Thursday, prior to the break-ing-up of the School for the Easter holidays the Chairman, several members of the Committee and householders, attended the school. The Chairman, Mr E. T. Frost, gave an address to the children, and, in referring to the great feat of arms which the Australians and New Zealanders had performed outlined the growth and freedom of the British Empire, the reason why we are at war, the loyalty of the Dominions, the growth and traditions of our Navy, and the number of our Allies. Mr F. Lawson also made a few appropriate remarks, after which the children sang the National Anthem.

Miss Worthington lias been transl'erred to Devonport and another teacher is to take her place. During the three years she has been at Tuakau she has put in excellent work, and the teachers, scholars and parents will be sony to hear of her departure. To shew their appreciation of her services they have invited her to a social to be held in the School on Thursday next, wlion a presentation will be made to her. There is every possibility that the llax mills will have to close down shortly owing to the great shortage of shipping space. Tho storage sheds in Auckland are just about full and there seems to be no possibility of immediate relief.
