The Rev. Benjamin Moore, the second Bishop of New York, was a man noted for his ready wit— that his wife apparently shared*with him. A dinner was given by some of Govnor Morris's friends v,..,.i lie was about to depart for Europe. Bisliop Mcore and 1* wife were of the party. In the course of conversation Mr. Morris observed that since he was going abroad he had made his will, and, turning to Bishop Moore replied : "Sir, you are not only very kind, but you are generous; you are veQ' generous: you have left me by far the largest portion of your estate." Mrs. Moore immediately added: — "My, dear, you have come into possession of your inheritance remarkably soon. 1 ' "Arc you unmarried ?' inquired the registration man. "Oli, dear, no," said the little lacy, blushing; "I've never even been married." The Recruiting Official: "One gran' father living? Is he on your father's or mother's side?" The Recruit: "Oh, 'e vanes, sir; 'e sticks up for both on 'cm—a sort o' nootrr-1." Tsrael Harding, V.C., who recently had his ship blown up while minesweeping in the Dardanelles, escaping with a broken 'eg. is -i-hty-fnur years of age.
