WHANGARATA.

The usual monthly meeting of the Whangaiaia Branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the Bchoolhouse on Saturday last. In the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr J. Fulton, the chair was occupied by Mr J. Grimshaw. There was a fair attendance of members and a good deal of correspondence was read and discussed. A letter from the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, asking for the support of the Branch iu the recruiting scheme was recaived and it was decided to enquire from the Franklin County Council as to which district Whangaratawas in and what plan they were adopting, if any, for. the canvassing of the district. The president, Mr J. Fulton, was appointed the Branch's delegate to the Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union It was decided to draw the attention of the Provincial Executive to the proposed importation of stubble quail by the Acclimatisation Society, as whilst the Branch had no desire to hinder or prevent sport, they felt the farmers were already over-burdened with " parasites " and pests without having any more to provide for. The annual meeting of householders took place in the Schoolbouse on Monday night for the purpoEe of electing a School Committee, Mr J. Fulton presiding. The chairman read the annual report of the work accomplished by the School, also the various works carried out by the Committee, which was on the whole very satisfactory. A vote of thanks was carried unanimously to the retiring Committee. The following were elected as the Committee for the ensuing year, viz: —Messrs P. J. Cooney, J. Fulton, J. S. McGahan, H. Lang and J. F. Ludwig. At a subsequent meeting of the newly-elected Committee Mr P. J. Cooney was elected chairman on the motion of the retiring chairSan, Mr J. Fulton. Mr J. S. Mcahan was re-elected secretary and Mr H. Lang treasurer.
