MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL
Monthly Meeting.
The usual monthly meeting of the above authority was held on Tuesday last at the Council's ofiice in Auckland. Present: Messrs H. R. McKenzie A. Hattaway, A. D. Bell, A. Muir, J. C. Biyant, J. Pearson and Messrs A. Bell (clerk) and C. Dixon (foreman;, and Mr Moore (consulting engineer.) AITLkATIO.Y FOR GRANTS In view of the early session of Parliament this year the UnderSecretary Public Works Department, asked that all applications for road grants should be lodged with the Local Public Work's Engineer not later than the loth instant.—lt was resolved to renew the applications for grants as submitted last year. sANDsrrr —orere roju. The Orere settlers forwarded the 6um of £72 10s being part of the subscription promised towards the Sandspit-Orere road. They also gave notice.of their intention to forward another cheque. — The clerk reported that £153 had been paid to date to the Board. BRIDGE REPAIRS. Mr R. F. Moore, consulting engineer to the Council, informed the Board that in company with Mr C. Dixon, the Council's foreman, he had again inspected bridges in the County, plans and specifications for ones authorised for the renewal being before the Council. It was decided to make application to the Government for a £ for £ subsidy for the renewal of the following bridges in ferro-concrote, viz, Papakura Riding: Alfriston Creek, Creamery, numbers one and two and Hansen's, approximate cost, £700; Wairoa Riding: Brown's Creek (Road Board) £SOO and Bailey's, Creamery Creek and McNicol's Creek, total £7OO. THE foreman's REPORT. The foreman reported that repairs to the Wiri bridge, including tarring and sanding, had beeh completed. Operations in connection with the crushing of maintenance metal for Weymouth Road had started and the formation of footpaths at Manurewa had been completed, The expenditure of the last grant on the Great South Road, Takanini, had been completed, including the removal of a fence and the erection of a gatepost at Mr Walters. The lengthening of the culvert for the side road at Wiri would be commenced next week. A bridge at Alfriston and two at Brookby showed signs of collapsing. He suggested that four trucks of metal should be obtained for winter repairs on the Brookby Road, from Manurewa to Alfriston. As instructed at the previous meeting of the Board he had prepared specifications of work on the Orere Valley Road. Mr Cambridge, the successful contrctor, had started with the work and preparations for the putting in of culverts had been oifected. 180 Yards of metal had been carted from Thorpe's quarry since the previous meeting of the Board. Smith's plant was in Talbot's pit crushing metal. He recommended that the culvert opposite Mr Alexander's property at Wairoa should be renewed with a 12-inch concrete culvert.
The report was adopted miscellaneous.
It was agreed that provision should be made for a quarry in the Manurewa Riding.
