Our correspondent writes : 11 The rosidouts of Drury hail with delight the resolve of tha Franklin Cou ity Couucil re the clearing ot the gorse and blac'cbeiries in aud about Druiy. One of the most couspicuous places ia the district, viz , right in front of the sffio)!, is a veritable gorse forest aud it encroaches right on to the road. It is a growing disgrace and tha longer it is left the more disgraceful it becomes. The absontee land owners want a shaking up and if they will Dot kejp their land clean, let it come into the possesion of those who will. The County Council caunot maka a mo/J too soon and if they can have th's district cleaned up they will merit the good wishes of all bon* ti lo residents."
At a meeting of the Drury branch of the Farmers' Union held in the Drury Hall last Saturday night, Mr Jos. Flanagan (president), in the chair, it was proposed to form a committee for tli9 purpose of des-' troying the rabbits which a'o bocoming such a nuisance in the, district This, however, did not meet wiih the entire approval of those presout, and the following resolution was put by Mr Flanagan and was carried: "That in tho opinion of this meeting of farmers uo voluntary measures will be of any pcm tnent effect, and the best method to deal with tho pest would be to form a Rabbit Board of the whole county, and make it compulsory to destroy tho rodents." The other business was the re-election of Mr J\js. Flanagan as President of tho branch and Mr Syd. Fielding as secretary and treasurer. Mr Jos. Flanagan was appointed a delegate to the forthcoming conference re destruction of rabbits.
