GIFTS FOR SOLDIERS.
Aiding the Dominion Scheme. As a result of the recent visit to Pukekohe of the Mayoress of Auckland (Mrs J. H. Gimson) and Miss B. Speeding, Hon. Sec. of tin Auckland (Provincial) Women's League, a strong committee of Pukekohe ladies has been formed to canvass the borough and outlying districts in support of the Dominion scheme for Uifts to soldiers and we are requested to state that the work of the canvassers will be facilitated if residents will decide as to what suppoit they can give. Complaint has been made in the past that many parcels have gone astray and have not reached their intended recipient. The gift scheme, as agreed upon at the conference recently held at Wellington, is to prevent over-lapping and to practically assare that every man hi the ranks shall receive a present. A monthly despatch of gifts has been arranged and it is asked that every family should prepare at least one parcel every month for a soldier or contribute its value in money, viz. 2s 6d, to provide for its purchase Certain specified articles (as will be explained by the canvasser) have been selected for the contents uf the parcels but possibly the easier and more acceptable method for contributors will be to accept responsibility for the cash equivalent. In all cuses cards bearing the donors name will accompany the gifts.
