PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.
Monthly Meeting. The adjourned monthly meeting of the Papakura Town Board was held on Friday evening last. There were present : Messrs D. Stewart (chairman), D. W. Jones, T. D. Campbell, J. Bates, A. Walln and W. Crawford.
MISCKLLAMiOUS. A letter was received from Mr E C. Johnson, Rouselle Street, offering to make an entrance to his property from the Great South Road conditionally on the Board supplying the pipes and metal necessary for the work.—Members agreed to inspect the locality to-morrow (Wednesday) and to decide on the ground whether action should be taken.
1 As a telegraph pole opposite Mr Knott's billiard saloon on the Great South Road formed an obstruction to a road opened on the property of the Church of England it was resolved to apply to the Postal Department to have the position of the same altered. The question of making provision for the drainage from the buildings uu the town side of East Street was mentioned, by Mr Campbell, who considered that nine inch pipes were necessary to convey it across East Street into the drain.—lt was resolved that an inspection of the portion affected should be made tomorrow (Wednesday). Works decided to be put in hand included repairs to Green street, near Mr Manning's property, Park road ; the Great South Road, near Mr Willis' property ; and the blinding of metal on Ranfurly road. The chaii-man was directed to make provision for the repairing of footpaths with scoria and it was resolved that the footpath leading from Messrs Willis Bros stores to Messrs Stokes and Earl's should be re-graded level with the kerbstone. Mr Crawford stated that he and another business man were arranging to haye the portion of the footpath in front of their shops asphalted.
UXSAJ IsFAt rOKY PROCEDURE. The chairman reported on variations that existed in regard to the wages paid to casual labourers employed by the Board and the j amount charged by carriers when using a second horse. He pointed out that there was a difference of a shilling in the wages paid two men TVho- same" number"of hours and while a man, cart and horse could be obtained for 12s to 15s per day an extra 10s was charged when a leader was used. II o further mentioned that despite tho extra cost of living the clerk had not received a rise in salary for four years.—Messrs Bates, Campbell, and Wallis wore appointed as a sub-committee to draw up a scale of wages iu reference to the former matter and to report at the next meeting of tho Board, as also on the ijuostiou of the clerk's salary.
11! E SALE YAKUS. It was resolved to ask the NewZealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company to waive their right to the lease of the Board's property at the corner of the sale yards, opposite Messrs Willis Bros' store, on which stands a building which the Board desires removed, and further to request that the yards should be cleaned and limed.
tllh UHKART, Messrs D. Stewart, D. W. Jones and W. Crawford were appointed as delegates to work in conjunction with two nominees of the subscribers iu the control of the library.
