AEROPLANE FUND A l;tter was received from the secretary of the Auckland Provincial Ae oplane Fund asking for donations towards the F ur P° se °* presenting one or more aeroplanes to the lmpernliGovernment. A paragraph in the letter stating that tbe war had undoubtedly benefited many in the Dominion, eapscially the producers, met with considerable comment. Mr J Heiry said he took exception to the remark, which was becoming altogether too common. Farmers had paid a great deal ot extra taxation and had been most generous in their assistance to all patriotic funds and had to pay high prices for all farm requirements such as implements, wirp, manures, etc. He wanted to know where tbe merchant came in; according to reliable information he bad received the merchants had the best year orf recird, and had received from 25 per cent to. 100 per cent increase on stock at no extra cost to themselves
Mr Johns thought appeals could be made to patriotism without the continual cry of how well the farmers had done, and he took particular exception to the remark Mr Henry said he was certainly in favour of supporting the aeroplane fund, and mentioned the imnortant part that aeroplanes were playing in the war. He thought the Branch could spare £1 each towards the fund After some further discussion tbe following resolu'ion was proposed by Mr M Criape, and seconded by Mr J Henry, and carried: "That after having fully discussed the request for support for the aeroplane fund this branc'n recommends its members to give it their best financial assistance,"
PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE Messrs M Crispe and R W Johns were, appointed to represent the Mauku branch
