NIGHT-SOIL SYSTEM FOR PUKEKOHE.

As recently reported iu our column!;, the" Pukekohe Borough Council lately decided to take a fresh poll on the drainage question if '25 per cent of ratepayers petitioned, and in default of such petition to go ahead with a night-soil service. The ratepayers again manifested their complete apathy regarding the vital matter of sanitation, and the required number of petitioners was not forthcoming. The Council lias therefore decided to institute a nightsoil system. It will commence on Ist May next and it will be a weekly service throughout, at a cost to occupiers of 2s (iJ per month per pan. A definite arrangement with a contractor (Mr 11. J. Hawkins has been made for a term of two years. The district to bo served will be East Street Hill, Prospoct Terrace, Hanis Streot, Queen Street (to Cemetery Pioad corner), lead (to factory), Victoria Street, Dublin Stict, So Idon Street (to Capo Crossing, uud all streets iu the ceutro of the towu. Residents living outside that area will probably also bo able to make arrangements with the c mtraetor tor a service if require!. Within the iuoro limited area mentioned, however, tho service will be compulsory. The system is tho old ' •' iloat " system.
