MANUREWA.
RAILWAY WORKER'S ACCIDENT. A new arrival in the district named Thompson, employed on the railway works at Manurewa, met with a sevious accident yesterday morning. He was engaged with other members of bis gang pushing a truck loaded with rails and failed to notice that a bank running close fojtbe line was being approached. The result was that he was jammed between the bauk and truck. On being extricated it was found that both his legs were broken. Au attempt to secure medical assistance locally failed, but bis injuries were temporarily attended to by a nurse. He was conveyed by the 9.20 a.im train from Papakura to Auckland where he entered the public hospital. To-night (Friday) a meeting is beiDg held in the Methodist Church to establish a Literary and Debating Society. Messrs Pegler, Burton and Bell are working energetically in this direction and at present everything points to a very successful season.
