NOVEL RECRUITING.

I am in the drapery line, and the cry for more men for Kitchener's Army sot me thinking as to how I would best got young men to come forward to join the nrmy. Ultimately I hit upon the following idea. I purchased three dozen pairs of gloves. Each pair I divided, and the left-hand gloves were then sent out, each in a neat enve'ope, to thirty likely young men. With each glove was a card — "Call at M , and you will he presented with the right-hand glove, or if this dots not fit, you will he able to exchange it for a suitable pair." Over two dozen stalwarts called during the ensuing week, and got the warm, woolly winter mittens fitted to their satisfaction, and during the pro."oss of carrying out these gratis deals I took the opportunity of impressing upon them in a quiet way the need for them joining the Colours. The little !iit of strategy was a great success, and I am pleased to say the majority of these fine young fellows arc to-day in khaki uniform. EQUAL TO THE OCCASION. A Scotchman took the young daughter of a neighbouring farmer out for the day. They went by excursion to Glasgow. After 'pending e : ght hours in sightseeing, with no interval for refreshment. Sandy decided they should take the next train home. When her father heard that th t . gfrl "find had nothing to eat a'l day, he was very annoyed. "Here,'' he said to her, "give this "2s 6d to the young man, nnd tell him that's \our railway fare." Next day she met him and presented it. "Sure, ye needna have bothered, ""Mngtlie." he said. "It would have done on Sunday!" mi) DUTY FOR BOTH. "Get up. there's a sweet cent'eTffinn." pleaded the landlady at an Irish s iK>tel. "It's seven o'clock, sorr." "But I told you not to call nie until *.-'ght." was the angry response. "Shure, an' don't I know; hut two gentlemen are waiting for their hreak"fast. an' T i in'f liv the < loth t'H I iiavo yer r.ono'ir s tvi s'vt."
