MANUREWA ROAD BOARD.

Monthly Meeting.

The regular monthly meeting of the Manurewa Road Board was held on Monday evening last, the members present being Messrs G F Druce, chairman, A Muir, P Koy, W Brown, C Coxhead, together with the clerk, Mr A J Mabee A NEW FENCE An application for permission to ercet a fenc3 on the top of a retaining wall along the frontage of bis propeity in Stition road, which, if granted, woud necessitate an encro.chment of e-ix inches on the footpath, was submitted, toetner with a pan of the same by Mr T W Bell The chairman w?s in sympathy with the proposal and was of the opinion that the projected fence would be an improvement on the present one Mr Muir suggested that vt should be stipulated in the conditions that the applicant should shift the fence at duy time the Board should require him to do so Mr Coxhead thought that it should alsa b3 embodied in the conditions that the fence should be erected in conformity with the plan It was resolved to grant the request in accordance with the suggestions made by Messrs Muir and Coxbcad A BRIUUE PROJECT The cierk to tr.e Fapatostce Road Board notified the Board of his auhority's desire to proceed with the construction of a bridge over the Puhonui stream on McLauglin's road now that the water waß low, ar.d a request was made that the Manurewa Road Board should appoint a representative to meet the members of the Fapatoetoe Board on the ground to discuss the question 'ihe chairman remarked that it was a polite request to contribute to the bridge Mr Muir thought that the Board was liable f:r a contribution It was agreed that all the members should meet on th site at 10 a.m. on Thursday, 2nd March, to view it ROAD FORMATION WANTED Mr W W McLaughlin, Fapatoetoe, made application for the opening of a road which he said was the only outlet he had from his property into Brown's road. In view of the number of years he had been paying rates he considered the Board should favourably consider his request Mr Coxhead considered that a special rating area should be formed if the Board intended tu do anything with the road The chairman remarked that it would be an expensive undertaking, as it would cost.£2oo to fill in a gully on the road, and then it would only serve one property The cletk pointed out that the road would serve six properties Mr Brown considered that the area of land was large enough to be formed into a Special rating area It was decided that the Board should view the locality and should write Mr McLaughlin and other owners to meet them on the day of inspection REQUEST FOR A FOOTPATH Mrs C Stewart wrote informing the Board that she had erected buildings on Lots Ncs. 58 and 59, and intended building on Lot No. GO, all of which were on the Massey road, Station Estate. She requested the Board to cut a bank away and form a footpath from Lot 57 to 62 The chairman remarked that it was the "old story, ' that it a toet path was made lor o:e it would have to be dona tor others Mr Koy doubted if the Board had authority to undertake the work, ar.d was inclined to think it was part ol a Town Board's duty Mr Brown proposed, and the chairman seconded that the matter should be deferred.—Agreed PROPOSED NtUW ROAD A letter was read from Mr F E White, on behalf ot the owce-s of the Station Estate, Manurewa, Btating that it was proposed to make a road through eection 84, leading from the Mtssey road to the new railway station, a rough plan of which was encloeed, and i siting what the Board w iuld require to secure the road's dedication. The writer pointed out that the road would be a bcon to the residents, particularly thesi living 1:1 the northern end of the district, as it would be the means cl shortening Ihe distance from their homes to the railway station by a quarter of a mile. It was also stated ttat the owrers were giving an acre cl land in connection with tie proposal, and that the Railway Department had approved of the same Mr White was present and stated that it was the original intention of those lor whom he wa3 acting tu have had the road somewhat dili'erent, but in order to tit in with the requirements ol the Railway Department a slight alteration was mtde. la giving particulars of the proposed road fcc stated that it was to be eight chains long and with the exception of a small portion, for which the Kaiiway Department was responsible, it woulJ be all on high land It was resolved, on tie proposal of Mr Muir, seconded by Mr Koy, that the road should be formed for a width of 42 feet, with a metal strip i 5 leet wide running the whole distance, the metal to be six inches d',ep and blinded with scoria, and to have a canbr of nine inches, together with two 12-feet lootpathß the Board to accept dedication w h completed

MISCELLANEOUS It was agreed that whm the Board considered the time was opportune alternate tenders should be called for scuna and metal for Brown's road and scoria for other ro.iCB in the district The clerk was instructed to ascertain the price of 18-inch pipes, with a view of necessary repairs being put in hand on Falmer'a road To keep intact a fiesh supply of water and .to make it available for picnickers, it was decided to have repairs effected, under the supervision of Mr Boy, at the well at the foot of Koy's road It was decided to huld the next monthly meeting on tha 20th March
