PUKEKOHE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
l'he ordinary monthly meeting of the L'ukekohe Chamber nf Commixes was held on Monday evening, Mr R F Webster, president, being in.the chiar A resolution was passed protesting against te refusal of the Railway Department to stop the Main Trunk express trains at Pukekohe, and copies of the resolution were ordered to be torwarfled to the Prime Minister, the Right Hon W F Masjey, as member for the district, and to the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W H Herries. Jhe secretary, Mr B H And ew, reported that he had been informed by the postmaster thai the appointment of a resident telephone linesman had now been arranged, and that in order to remtdy existing defects in the telephonic service new cabl s were to be erected in King street pendirg the installation of the underground syslem It was decided to support the petition to be presenUd to the Governmem by the launch and flaxmill owners, etc, trßding oa the Waikato, tor financial assistance towards »he improvement of navigation facilities on the Waikato river It was also resolved to request the Postal Department to arrange for an evening despatch of mails trom Auckland to Pukekohe in order that inward letters stould be delivered in Pukekohe first thing ia the morning ir.stead of the mail rot bung sorted, as is now the case, until about 10 a.m.
