COUNTY ENGINEER'S REPORT.
At the meet' Jig of the Franklin County Council held last Thursday Iha County Fngineer reported as follows: Works generally throughout the County are progressing in a satisfactory manner and there are at present let in progress 36 Contracts. Since the last meeting oi the Council Contracts have been let, viz : Contract No. 114 a : For forming poition of the Koheroa Eoad at Deans Hill. Contractor, Kristian Bjerring, price £OS Os Od. Contract No. 151 : For carting Spawls at Pokeno. Contractor, K. G. Prendergrast, price £6O 9s Od. Contract No. 162 a: For forming a portion of Clark's Road at Ashwin's, Waiau. Contractor, Roper Bros, end Mapp, price £52. Contract No. 163 : For the supply and deliveiy of 50 c.y. of metal Council's quarry at McCrea's, Papakura, W. A. Harrison, price £ls. Contract No. 161 a: For carting spawls to Drury to Tuakau Main Road at Harri&ville. Contractor, O'Connor Bros., price £G7 10s od. Contract No. 159: For forming approaches and raising Glasson's Creek Bridge Karaka Waiau Road. Contractor, J. H. Turner, price £217.
Contract No 144 : For the supply and erection of Wharf at Needles Manukau Harbour. Contractor, William Michie, price £257. Contract No. 119: For forming and culverting a portion of Patumahoe to Waiau Straight Road. Contractor, P. Tarring ton, price £277. Contract No. 149: For forming and culverting portion of Mangatangi to Smiths Road. Contractor, G. H. Stubbs, price £2OO. Final payments appear in to-day's accounts for the following contracts which are now completed. Contract No. 120: For the supply and delivery of spawls Beach Road, Papakura. Contractor, H. Mattson. Contract No. 121 : For the supply and delivery of spawls Park Road Papakura. Contractor, H. Mattson. Contract No 122 : For the supply and delivery of spawls Waihoehoe Road Drury, Contractor, C. Appleby. Contract No. 136 : For the supply of t ßpawls Portsmouth Road, Bombay. Contractors, Donovan and Common. Contract No. 162 : For the supply and delivery of spawls Cemetery Aka Aka Road, Waiuku. A number of other works have been completed during the past month, such as the forming of roads, re-decking of bridges, etc., the following being a list of roads and localities:— Re-decking and repairs to bridges in the Hunua riding; forming up and extending the Aka Aka landing; improvements to a portion of the Kohe Kohe Top road and other roads in the Awhitu riding ; the formation of a portion of side road Waiuku-Otaua road ; the forming and improving portion of the Pukekohe to Bombay road; improving sides of the Pukekohe East to Drury road at bottom of Connie's hill; the formation of a portion of Bombay to Harrisville road; improving and culverting portions of the Mangatangi road, Hunua riding ; reforming and improving portions of road from Morley's corner, Waiuku-Pukekohe road to WaiukuDrury road, past Ashwin's; improvements to Maori road between Waiuku-Awhitu road and Kohe Kohe Top road, Waippi riding; the decking of bridges Opaheke main road at Ararimu ; formation of the lower end of Beach road, Papakura; re-decking of portion of Creamery bridge, Mauku; ami piping and-improving the outlet to stone culvert at Rama Rama, Great South Road.
Hogwoods Road Waiau : All arrangements have been made for the necessary fencing of this road. The plans and spicifications for the construction work are now ready and as soon as the legislation of the road is completed the work may be put in hand. McLennan's Hill Road Papakura : During the month proposals were submitted to the Public Works Department for the expenditure of the available Government Subsidy (£IOO £ for £ which have since been returned approved. Tenders will now be called for the work without delay. Creamejy Bridge, Mauku : On the 18th of last mouth the Waiuku Town Board's steam roller whilst on its way to Waiuku broke through the decking of this bridge doing considerable damage to the decking. The roller was pulled out of the bridge by the County traction engine and men. I would suggest that the cost of the work be charged to "Andersons Limited," of Christchurch, in whose charge the roller was.
Stone Crushing Plant: Crushing operations have beeu carried out in a satisfactory manner, stone having been crushed as follows:
Pukekohe—Bombay Road Pukekohe—Patumahoe Road Patumahoe —Mauku Road at Patumahoe Patumahoe Mauku Roadiat Mauku Pukekohe -Waiuku Road (Union Road) The Engine is now engaged with the Council's road roller rolling the Pukekohe-Aka Aka road through Pura Pura. The roller is making a big improvement on the road; it will take at least two weeks yet to complete the work. All matters left to me for attention will be either carried out or reported on at the earliest possible date. The report was adopted.
