TUAKAU.

In connection with the annual Garden Fete and Sports arranged for Wednesday next a strong committee met on Tuesday, at the residence of Mr Pirret, to deal with the programme. It was decided to carry out proceedings upon a much larger scale than the 1914 function. Horse events are to be included, also a numbor of novel races of a very humorous character. An entire chance in side shows is being aimed at, and the ladies' committee have arrangements in hand for a generous

sweets. The secretaries reported that many valnable trophies have already been promised. Given tine weather the Carnival should prove a big draw. No little interest is attached to the circumstances attending the loss and subsequent recovery of a horse, the property of a Tuakau resident. Some nine months ago the animal disappeared from its paddock at Tuakau, and the owner saw nothing more of it until last week when he recognised it at Messrs Buckland and Sons horse bazaar at Pukekohe, whither it had been brought for purposes of sale by a Te Kauwhata resident, who purchased it a few months back at Messrs Buckland's honevard iu Auckland. Its movements prior to its sale in Auckland are now receiving police attention, but meanwhile the original owner is in possession of the steed and the Te Kauwhata purchaser has every reason for thinking that on his part he should not be out of pocket by buying the horse in good faith. Two cases of infantile paralysis have broken out at Tuakau, both patients being young children. Attendance at the Tuakau school has been denied to other children living in the infected houses, and the school is only open during the morning hours of 9 to 12.30.
