As a temporary means of sanitution for Pukekohe. nighi-mil removal by the medium ot a Hoat received Bhort shrift from the borough Council at their meeting last Wednesday. Considerable interest was displayed by onlookers in Pukekohe on Wednesday in regard to the removal from the old to the new show-ground of a section of the Franklin A. and P. Society's stable buildings. The structure was of large dimensions and a pair of wheels were placed at either end, the Borough Council's steam roller being requisitioned to supply the hauling power. Leaving the Show ground about i p.m. progress was satisfactory until the corner of the road leadiug from East street by the side of Dr. Wake's property to the station was reached about an hour later. There a difficult and sharp augle had to be negotiated and caused endless trouble, increased all the more by the wheels of the ongine failing "to bite" on the soft material of the road side. Operations, however, were conducted under the supervision of the Borough Foreman (Mr S. Clows) and after a delay of some two hours the journey was resumed. With a light rain falliug the clay substauce of the road then made progress uono too easy but tlio row Show grouiul was eventually reached about 8 p.m., the eugiuo being left there for the night. As the outcome of the heavy rain of Wednesday evening the engine's return along the road yesterday was attended with a recurrence of trouble through the wheels skidding on the soft soil iu somewhat alarming fashion. ludeed when opposite Dr. Wake's stables the engine slid down a dip in the road and further efforts lor a continuation of the journey wore doomou inadvisable pending a return of dry weather. Arrangements had been niadu for the auuual examination of the engine's boiler to take place to day so practically no inconvenience was caused by tho "hold up" as dismantling operations wore entered on and tho boiler will be inspected on the spot on which the engine stands instoad of at tho town depot. Uubbei Stamps ot all description may be ordered at the Office of the 'Pukekohe Times." Cail ind select from our il uetrated catalogue.
