A lady—French—is showing a visitor the family portraits in the picture pillory. "That officer there in the uniform," she says, "wad my great-great-grandfather. Ho was as brr.vc as a lion, but one of the most unfortunate of men- lie never fought a battle in which he did not have an arm or a ley: carried away." Then she added, proudly, "He took part in twenty-tour engagement.''
