SANITARY MATTERS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—The failure to secure the authority of the ratepayers to instal a septic tank drainage scheme in Pukekohe may be a blessing in disguise for it may in the future lead to a scheme ol drainage, other than a septic tank process, that may concsivably be more workable for an ever-increasing population and thus not be subject to the limitations with which the Borough Council's plan was attended. The Ouncil, however, according to rumour, threaten to push a drainage scheme on the towD, despite the vote last week, using the Health Department as a coercive tool, but seeing that the Health Department officially recognises a night-soil system as effective in other towns is it likely that the Department will back the Borough Council up in their arbitrary attempts to thrust upon the people a pet scheme of which they approve but which the ratepayers for various reasons distrust '/—Yours et(.:., LOGIC.
