PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.

Monthly Meeting. 'J he monthly meeeting of the Papakura Town Board was held on Monday evening, the members present being: Messrs I) Stewart, chairman, D W Jones, T D Campbell, R Wears, J Bates, A Walhs, and the clerk, H W Geissler. CEMETERY ALLOTMENTS Arising out of the minutes the matter of the disposal of the lease of the cemetery allotments was auain discussed. The chairman stated that he had interviewed the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, and the manager bad said that possibly the lections could be auctioned on the ground.—lt was resolved to advertise the sale in the two city papers and the "Pukekohe Times.'' The question cf a building clause was raised by the chairman, who said it was certainly in the interests of the town that the leaseholders should be encouraged to build. Mr Jones: The Board made a mistake regarding its other endowmjnts. The chairman: Yes, we did; and we should not repeat it. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Jones, that a clause be inserted into the leases providing for the compulsory erection of a dwelling to the value" of £250, within fiva years, on each, otherwise the allotment sretiors to revert to ths Board. JOINT RANGER AND POUND The chairman repotted as to the conference held at Ardmore on Saturday last relative 1 to the proposed new joint pound, and said it was estimated that the erection of two yards twenty feel by. twenty feet and one forty feet by twenty feet and fences would cost about £6O. The water supply could be rather easily acquired.—The matter was generally discussed, and it was resolved that the Board contribute a ahare ef the cost not exceeding £25. LOUSE METAL The chairman drew attention to the loose metal on the roads and it was decided to employ a man to gather up and also to buv a new rake for the work. LOG TAX COLLECTOR It was resolved to offer the position of Dog Tax collector to the person who held it last year and to make the tax Bs for sporting dogß and 2s 6d for col lien. The purchase of collarß was left IB the hands of the chpirman. KEHI KERI ROAD Mr West waited upon the Board asking if it would contribute half the cost cf a set of pipes in front of his property on the Keri Keri road. It would take seventy-live pipes, and second-class onei would do. He also drew attention to a bad hole on Unslow roud.—The matter of the pipes was deferred until the next meeting, and the Onslow road work was left in the hands of the chairman to get attended to. HALF-HOLIDAY A member suggested that the statutiry halt-holiday be altered 'to Saturday, so a 3 to assist the universal Saturday half-holiday movement,- but it was generally thought that Wednesday was more suitable tor Papakura.— As there had been no agitation on the matter it was resolved that the hoilday be fixed for each WdenesJay during the ensuing twelve months. TENDERS Two tenders for the supply of 15Q yards of two-inch metal wer« received from G McKinstry and James Walker, but these were considered too high, and it was resolved to invite fresh tender* later, and to inquire elsewhere as to the cost of metal. TOWN BOARD DEPOT The question of the selection of a depot for the Town Board was raised by Mr Jones, who sugges'ed that the site next to the office shpuld Dp used for that purpose. He, said at present gear was being lost for the want of a permanent depot,—The suggestion was adopted. BY-LAWS On the motion of Mr Jones it was decided that a Bpecial meetiog be held on Monday, January 24tb, tor the purpose of considering the drawing up of bv-laws.
