The Wednesday half - holiday movement iu substitution for the existing statuary half-holiday on Saturday appears to be favoured by the majority of traders iu Pukekohe. The opinion seem-, growing that with other adjacent towns observing the half-holiday in the middle of the week business iu Pukekohe is projudically affected by being the only district in which the shops are closed on Saturdays. According to the Shops and Oil ices Act the Borough Council have absolute powers iu fix ing the day of the half-holiday. Tbero is, however, very little doubt but that Councillors in arriving at a decision would be guided by the wishes of any marked majority of the shopkeepers concerned. A petition for Wednesday closing is accordingly being prepared for submission to the Council by the advocates ot the same,
