WAIPIPI.
On December 27th one of Waipipi's best known and oldest settlers passed away, in the person of Mr John Keogh. The deceased, who was 84 years of age, arrived in New Zealand by the sailing ship Alfred from the Oape of Good Hope some 52 years ago. His wife predeceased him, but he is survived by a grownup family of eight sons and three daughters. The funeral took place at the Waipipi Cemetery on December 29th, when the large.attendance of residents testified to the high respect in which the deceased had been held in the district. The Rev Father Skinner officiated at the graveside. Harvest operations are still in full swing and will continue for a few weeks yet. Grass paddocks are beginning to show patches of brown and cows are somewhat falling off in their yields. Picnics as usual were numerous in the district on New Year's Day, launch and fishing parties being much in evidence.
