PAPAKURA.
l'be work of straightening the bad corner in the road near Glerora Park will be commenced daring the next few days, directly the formation work at Manorewa bad been completed. The improvement will be a boon to motorists, biccc it will overcome what has always been a public danger. Trooper J Wiljod, who has returned invalided alter having been at the Front many months, was on a visit to hii cousin, Mr H Wilson, list week. Trcoper Wilson is very well known in Te Aroha, where he wae in business as a farrier for many years. The person wto can liven Papakura up will certainly earn the thanks of the community, and at the tame time farther the interests of the town. With the exception of the complimentary dinner to Mr A Willis, which wae of a private nature, there has not been a public function in the town since Carnival week. The result of all this is that to seek even the little amusement that even a retiring soul needs a trip to Auckland is ntce.sary. People have a habit of endeavouring to kill two birds with one stone, with the result that a "little shopping" is worked in with a visit to the pictures. The question aiises: "Have we public men in Papakura?" On present appearances one could not hesitate to anwser in the negative. Except in one or two quarters confidence appears to be lacking and apathy is displayed as far as progressivenesa is concerned.
