The will written by Lieutenant Raggi just before going into action shows the great spirit ot patriotism which inspired him. It was as follows, and was read by the colonel to the whole regiment:— "Whilst the noble figure of his Majesty King Victor Emmanuel 111., with paternal love, is seeking to unite the Italians beyond the Alps with their brothers of the Peninsula, I desire to make known to all concerned, in case of my death, my great desires: 'Oh! youth of Italy, envy my position. In the name of God, and in the hope of a better life, for the greatness, unity, and honour of my fatherland, for the liberty and independence of our oppressed brothers, and in the sacred name of Italy, and my love for everything (Italian, I willingly give my life and die happy for doing 60. Neither hard work, perils, hunger, thirst, nor sleeplessness can weaken my sentiments for the love of liberty and my hatred of tyrants. If I die, do not shed a tear for me, but fight, fight to avenge our brave comrades, and to win our rights.' "
