PROVINCIAL FARMERS' UNION.
A meeting of the Executive N Z. F.U., Auckland Province, was held in the Board Boom, Albert Street, Auckland, December 15th, 1915. Present: Messrs. A. A. Ross (chair), Jno. Ambury, J. C. Allen, J. S. Montgomerie, Jas. Boddic, E. C. Banks, J. E. Makgill, B. D. Duxfield, J. S. Fisher, P. Keegan, Major Lusk, Capt. Colbeck and A. Schmilt. Mr Boss reported that he had attended the meeting of Advisory Committee of Dominion Executive on Deeembf-r. 7th, and also gave a resume of the work done and the vari jus matters that were discussed AFFECTING NEW LEGISLATION. The Advisory Committee resolved : —"That it be a recommendation to each Provincial Executive to make arrangements with a Member of Parliament to supply them with information of intended legislation, and copies of Bills Bud Papers as soon as such are circulated, affecting the Farming Industry. It was finally resolved : —"That a remit for. next Provincial Conference be frame! for the purpose of appointing a man to watch proposod legislation affecting farmers. EXCHANGE VISITS OF PROVINCIAL tXECDTIVE MEMBERS. It was decided :-" That it be a recommendation to the various Provincial Executives to promote interchange of visits of the members to Executive Meetings, as tending to bring the farmers of the different Provinces into closer touih with each other, and so increasing the power and influence of the Union, and, that the various Provincial Executives be supplied with the dates of our fixed meetings with an intimation that we will be pleased to welcome any of their members wl o may be visiting. Auckland and find it convenient to attend ; also we shall be pleased to have their dates of meetings in the same way. CONBOEIPriON It was arranged that the various Provincial Fxecutives should be asked to favourably consider the following resolution:—"That the question of compulsory military service is a matter for the Government to decide, but if, with all the information at their disposal they consider it necessary then the farmers of the Dominion should support it. A resolution wa9 passed :—"That this Executive considers that the Government should now complete the good work done by the National Begistration, and, with due consideration for economic conditions, classify the men of the country so as to allow of their most effective service in the present crisis, taking pewer to enforce such service if required." SELLING STOCK BY LIVE WEIGHT. The Committee reported an interview held with the Waikato Farmers' Auctioneering Co's directors on November 16th and stated that the suggestion to erect weighing machinery at the principle Waikato fat sales was favourably received by the Directors, and they promised to go into the matter so soon as it was shown that the graziers in the Company's district were favourable to the suggestion. The Committee agreed to draft a suitable circular-to be sent to all Branches in the districts operating. On the information being received it is then intended to hold another meeting with a view of being able to definitely arrange matters.
BUB - PBOVINCIAL EX ECUTIVEB. The Secretary brought under the notice of the Executive the desirability of reorganising the whole »ystem in regard to making the work of the Union more effective, and suggested that sub-Provincial areas be marked out with sub-provincial Executives and Secretary, the Secretaries put on adequate salary and devote their time to Union work.—A Committee was appointed to report at next meeting.
