Lieutenant Hatt, in the hope of being certified as fit to return to the scene of active operations, went before the Military Medical Board at Hamilton this week, but bii sick-leave was extended until the middle of next month, when be will again be examined. Sergeant Koy Schofield met with a similar verdict at tbe bands of the Medical Board in Auckland, with the addition that be was ordered a rent spell at Rotorua.

In view of Ma apioaching .. marriage Mr Alan P. Day, clerk to the Franklin County Council, was entertained by several friends at supper on Wednesday evening in kawrie's Building's, Pukekohe. Mr C. K. Lawrie presided. All good wishes were extended to Mr Day and his prospective bride, and on behalf ot the assembled company Mr Grigor asked his acceptance of a Loewe pipe and a tobacco pouch, men? tioning tbat the gift was intended cs a little token of the esteem in wfcicn Mr Day was held by bis acquaintances in Pukekohe. Although the recent efforts made by the Pukekche borough Council to secure water on the summit of Pukekohe Dill proved fruitless, owing to the difficulty experienced in boring through the basaltic rock ercuuntered, it is interesting to record the fact that boring experiments carried out by Mr fl J Short, of Papatoetoe, on Mr S E Hoddinott's property, at an elevation some J2O feet below the top of the hill, have given satisfactory results. After passing through a considerable amount of hard bluestone rock for the greater part of 205 feet, water was struck at a depth of 224 feet and Mr Hoddikiott is now securing a flow of 480 gallons per hour. This eminently proves the accuracy ot the Rev fl Mason's theory that a subterranean water-basin exists en Pukekohe Hill.
