(See also page 4) MUSICAL SOCIETY'S PERFORM* ANCE On Friday evening tbe Manurewa Musical Society, under the capable conductorship of Mr fl V Burton, gave its fourth concert of tb3 season in tbe Manurewa Htll. There was a large attendance, and tbe audience was most warm and appreciative. The Society'a efforta on this occasion showed a decided improvement, probably the beat number being "Sweet and Low," tbe interpretation of wbich waa splendid. "Good Night, Beloved," waa another item particularly attractive and well rendered. Supporting the Society were several prominent provincial artistes, Miaa Laura Walker, Mr T C Seaton, Mr T T Garland and Mr K W McConnell. Messrs Hay and H V Burton aho obliged with the ever-popular duet "Excelsior." Mr Seaton waa at hi 3 best on the evening, and the audience showed 'its appreciation of his talents in no unmistakable manner. Next to him in popularity was Mr T T Garland, who excelled as a mirihmaker, white Miaa Walker waa also encored in each instance. Mr R W McConnell aa an elocutionist was decidedly interesting, aud bis selections met witb approval. The Society and those responsible for presenting tbe concert are deserving of commendation for tbe meritorious performance which was claaaical and yet popular. The accompaniments for the artiste were played by Mra Arcbdale Tayler, while Mr Phillips officiated for tbe Society.

After the concert»Mr Barton com* plimeated the Society apon the success achieved at the concert. Only about four practices bad been held, he said, and therefore the singing that evening was a credit. Continuing, Mr Burton said it wu with a certain amount of regret that the Society learned it waa likely to lose the services of Mr Phillips and Miss Bartilett, who are soon to get married. Both had been of great service to the Society, Mr Phillips aa pianist and Miss tjartlett as a member of the chorus. Aa a tribute and memento be had pleasure in presenting them with a silver teapot and stand, and Miss Bartleit with a bouquet of white sweet oeas with ribbons. Mr Edwards also referred eulogistically to the services rendered by the couple. Before the company die-, persed Mr Burton, on its bchalt, sincerely thanked Jlesdanua Heaketh and Ellman for the part tb» had taken in providing the delicious supper for the Society.
