'XMAS CHEER AT THE CAMPS.

"Dear Madam,—The Mayoress of Auckland and the Auckland Women's Patriotic League, with a view to hclpng our troops in camp in New Zealand to spend a happy Christmas, have decided' to furnish at least 1000 Christmas plum puddings for the camps at Trentbam, Tauherenikau, May Morn, etc, Tbey heartily invite your co-operation in the matter, feeling sure tbat you will be willing and glad to assist in this 'woman's way.'
"Many of the men may be able to to spend their Christmas at their own homes and partake of the home cheer and comfort. * Some will not be so fortunate, and others have no homes to which they can ko. To the two last-named classes we hope to send a touch and a reminder of home. The Camp Commandant at Trentbam bas signified his approval uf the course 'propoßd, and his hearty cooperation in the matter. "Ii order to secure uniformity in the quality of the puddings it is desirable, though not absolutely necessary, tbat the following recipe be used: "JOHN BULL'S CHRISTMAS PUDDING:
"One pound suet, half paund rtjur, half pound breadcrumb?, one pound raisinp, one pound currants, one pound sultanas, one pound mired peel, one teaspoonlul salt, one teaspoontul mixed spice, pound moist sugar, eight eggs. Beat and strain eggs for ten minutes; stir for 25 minute's; boil for thirteen hours. Ibis mixture will make two puddinga of about 2lb& each. H?il m cloth and bang up to dry.
"Gifts of cases of fruit, fresh lor dried, also sweets in tins, will be gladly included, if donated for the purpose. "Puddings, fruit, etc., will be sent with the best wishes of the Auckland Women's Patriotic League and the wonren of the province, and may be delivered at the Town Hall, Auckland, not later than 17th December.-Yoors faithfully, B. SPEDDING, Hon. Secretary." The lucal committee are of the opinion that the above recipie will be altogther too rich. Ladieß are asked to just make a good Christmas pudding. Contributions of any of the above mentioned gilts should reach Miss V. H. Webster, chairwoman of the Pukekohe Lady Liverpool League, not later than the 16th inst.
