WHEN A COW CHEWS BONES STICKS. &C.

The chewing of bones, etc., by a cow indicates a craving for something that the ordinary fodder does not provide in sufficient quantities and when you consider the many additional taxes on a milking cow's constitution that never occur in nature, it is easy to realise the importance of adding additional nutriment to the regular feed. Kemember that the ordinary calf takes only about twenty pounds of milk daily from the parent cow, while from forty to sixty pounds of milk is taken daily from a good milker, or two or three times as much as nature intended the cow to produce. Furthermore, a cow's constitution has often to produce this milk when the unborn calf is also making a big call for bone, muscle, and nerve producing nourishment. Thus you see, no ordinarily fed dairy cow can stand this continual drain without becoming weakened; it is then, when the vitality is low, that conditions are so favourable for the microbes of Tuberculosis, Abortion and Eedwater to make a start and find the cow ready prey. Wild or run cattle seldom suffer from these complaints because there is no unnatural tax imposed on their milkproducing organs. Now, bearing the foregoing facts in mind, you must realise the importance of adding to the cow's diet, such things as are necessary to strengthen the bovine constitution and provide the Additional nourishment required for the unborn calf and the milk supply. A progressive firm of manufacturing chemists have combined all the necessary additional constituents of a cow's diet into an excellent preparation known as " Cow-lie." This preparation is the concentrated food requirements that should be added to every milking cow's diet. It is easily given, you only have to open the box and plase it where the cow can reach it. They will then help themselves. " Cow-lie " strengthens the cow's constitution and ensures perfect health, enabling hev to produce large quantities of rich milk. "Cow-lie" also enables the milking period to be carried to its full termination. "Cowlie " prevents Tuberculosis, Abortion and Kedwater by keeping the cow vigorously healthy. Healthier calves are born by cows which were given "Cow-lie." You guard against all loss by keeping a full supply for your cows. "Cow-lie" prices are: 1 lb packets Is post, free; 20lb. packets Bs, posted 8s 6d. Stockowners find the 20lb. packets the most economical. If unprocurable at your Storekeeper's, send direct to the Manufacturers, Messrs Chas. Ratjen. Ltd., Agricultural and Manufacturing Chemists, Newmarket, Auckland.—Advt.
