The peace strength of the Bulgarian army is about 3,500 officers and 56,000 all other ranks, but the field army amounts to about 280,000 men, besides line of communications, troops, etc.
About five-sevenths of the popilla tion are engaged in agriculture, most of thorn being small proprietors holding from one to six acres.
