EVENING SPORTS GALA.
One of the most successful tunctions held in connection with x the Pukekobe yuecn Carnival eventuated on Friday evening last in Messrs Bu?kland and Sons' Hone Bazaar, when through the energies of the committee controlling the sports p-Ttion of ths Carnival the public were treated to h unique and varied entertainment tbat bristled with humour throughout. The sources of attraction were numerous,, consisting of side shows, a Paddy's Fair auction sale conducted by Mr J. T. Stembridge, a rifle gallery and athletic events open for competition to both young and old. The 50yds Gallipoli Handicap Kace was of a "spoof" nature and was hignly amusing, Mr Charles Clarke, off ths 35yds mark being first past the post and doing the distance in record time. The w inner handed back-the prize money lo the. fund. Ihe sporting events were very ably controlled by Messis Treanor, I. Motion, J. Kenuelly, Kollinson and Lysnar. A series ol tUR-of ware, taken pait in by teams' representing ths Gun Club (captained by F Graham), Farmers (P McSheen), Footballers (E Pollock), Town (3 Marshall) and I'uni (J Pollock) created much amusement. The final will be decided on Wednesday n:xt, on the Showground, between teams representing the Farmers, Footballers and Gun Club. The sack race was also respon-. sile for keen competition, the final being fought out between D Twidle first and Jim Blake second. Prior to the proceedings a procession headed by the Puktkobe Town Band and 'followed by the Boy Scouts and representatives .in fancy costumes of all the local business men, moved from the railway bridge in bast street to Seddon street, via King street, and thence to bazaar.
