AWHITU.
FAREWELLING THE BRAVE.
On Fnday, 12th inst, a little social evening was given by the Awhitu Bihle Class, in honour of one of their members, Sergeant James Fulbert Hamilton, eldest son of Mr W. (J. Hamilton, who is shortly having for Trentbam with the Tenth Reinforcements. Although the weather had not looked too promising ea'ller in the week and even that morning it was very doubtful, before noon the clouds blew away end Friday evening turned out an ideal one. When some forty young people had gathered together Mr Steven, Home Missionary, spoke a few words of welcome. Games, etc., were then commenced, which went oil' with a fine swing. During the evening the Bible Class young people gave many and various musical items, whi h met with groat applause. After the young ladies had put all in a good mood by the appearance of supper, Mr Steven made a little presentation on behalf of the Bible Class to their "soldier boy." In Mr Steven's speech he also made mention of another member of the class, Private Laurence Weelhsad, who although rot an Awhitu boy was a member of the class while in Awhiiu.
After a few speeches by members of the Bible Class and the singing of the old and appropriate tunc?, it was discovered it was quite time for to "gang awa' name!"
