Intending exhibitors at the Pukekohe Horticultural Society's Show, to be held on Tuesday next, are reminded that entries close with the Hon. Secretary, Mr J. .T. Stembndge, on Saturday next. . Messrs Alfred Auckland and Sods announce that o»ing to Saturday, November 27th being ore of the dates of the Auckland Agricultural Show, there will be no sale in the Pukekohe sards on that day, but dairy stock will be offered at their ordinary stock sale on Monday, November 29th. A revised traia service for the summer months is to come into force as from December Ist next with two express trains from Auckland to Kotorua and Thames respectively, and two vice versa, all stepping at Puktkohe. There are also some other minor alterations in the present time-table. Whilst being taken on Monday by road t,o the Otahuhu Trotting Club meeting at Alexandra Park a horse belonging to Mesats Baker Bros., of Pukekohe, tell and broke its leg. The animal was a wellbred trotter, being by Papanui— Typewriter. The accident occurred about half-mile from Pukekohe on the Karaka road.
On the arrival of the Queen of the South, Mrs K. F. Bollard, at the Pukekohe Carnival Sports on Saturdny a bouquet of red, and white flow«r.», adorned with streamefs of blue ribbon, provided by the Mayor, Mr H. G. R. Mascn, was presented to Mrs Bollard by Miss Mavis Brown.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company ara to hold a clearing sale on behalf of the estate of the late Mr D. Ashwin on the farm at Kohekohe on a Friday next, whilst a similar sale will be conducted on Tuedsav of next week at tin farm, at Tuakau, of Mr John McGahan, senr. Commencing at 2 p.m. tomorrow the patriotic musical, vocal and literary competitions to be held in the Premier .Hall, Pukekohe, will, owing to the number of entries, be of a somewhat lengthy order acd the finals are not likely to be reached until late in the evening. Considerable interest is attached to the gathering, and the contestants are expected to display no little talent in their respective sections. The afternoon items are limited aa follows:—2 p.m. recitations, children; 3 p.m., vocal, children; 3.30 p.m., Instrumental, children, classes 18-20 and 23-27. Mr J. F. Deane, hon. szcretary of the Pukekohe Carnival Headquarters Executive, writes:—'Certain rumours having been circulated in the district that the Carnival Committee has decided to vote a sum of momy towards the cost of the local Queen's Coronation dres', the Committee wishes it to be distinctly understood that no money whatever will be used for thia purpose out oi any money collected for ths Carnival Funds. What should be a capital evening's entertainment is to be givn at the Pukekohe Horse Bazaar next Friday, organised by a joint body representative of the Carnival Sports, Amusement and Paddy'sFair Committees. A torchlight pro" cession will leave the railway bridge at 7.30 p.m., and will narade the town en route to the Horse Bazaar. The numerous attractions will include athletic events, band and orchestral sanctions, side shows and hair dressing competitions, whilst auctions at Paddy's market Fair will be conducted at intervals, and the Gun Club prizes will be presented to the season's winners. A demonstration of lire fighting will also be given by the Pukekohe Firs Brigade, tor which purpose a miniature building will be erected in a paddock near-by and on being S3t alight the firemen will demonstrate their abilities in coping with the flames. On Saturday evening the Band will play in King strett and side shows will cater for the amusement of the public.
