Committee Meeting.
A meeting of the General Committee of the above Society was held on Friday night last, the president, Mr 1). R. Hamilton, being in the chair; the other members present being: Mesßrß J. Wylie, J. Roulston, J. N. Massey, F. Ballard, W. Sharpe, F. Simpson, J. Potter, John Schlaepter and the secretary, Mr J. N. Baxter. The i'rime Minister, the Right Hon. W. F. Massey, wrote acknowledging and accepting with thanks the committee's invitation for bim to be present at the Franklin Show on the 25th and 26th Febiuary. He further stated that if his engagements would allow be would undertake the official opening. He would advise them later. ELECTION OF STEWARDS.
Steward] for the forthcoming show were elected as follows, viz.
Blood stock and harness horsesMessrs Wylie, senr., J. Masuey and T. Sbipberd. Draught horses -Messrs Kennelly and K. Bilkey. Sh irthorns—Mr D. Lawton, junr. Holstfins Messrs H. Craig and W. Dunn.
Jersevs—Mesarß J. Wallace and A. P. Daysh, Ayrshires —Mr W. Rutherford. Fat Btock and sheep—Mr J. Schlaepfer. Pigs—Mr A. P. Daysh. Poultry and Dogs—Mr H. J. WebD.
Hall sections—Messrs F. Ballard, W. J. D. Sharp and F. Hubbard. Needlework—Mrs Webb. Weight-guessing and side-shows— Mr C K. Lawrie. Vehicular traffic- Messrs D. Fulton and J. Schlaepfer. Ground stewaids and hoi: waterMessrs J. Potter and F. Simpson. Railway—Messrs Flavell, Papesch Wylie and J. Baxter.
Press—Mr J. Roulston. Reception and Motor cars Steward—Mr A. B. Barter. JUDGES.
A selection of judges for all sections was made and the secretary was instructed to invite them to adjudicate. RECEPTION COMMITTEE.
A reception committee to meet tha Ministers of the Crown who intend being present at the show was appointed as follows; Members of the Finance Committee and Messrs J. Roulston R. Bilkey and A. B. Barter, with power to add. MISCELLANEOUS.
The question of a proposed ball fjr exhibits on the new showground was discussed, Mr Ballard submitting particulars ot a building 200 feet by 20 feet. The suggestion was referred to the Finance Committee to report to the General Committee.
It was farther decided that an office tor the secretary should be erected, the site to be chosen by the secretary.
A lengthy discusßion ensued over the advisability or otherwise of providing refreshments at tuture shows and whether suitable accomodation should be provided for the game. The matter was eventually deferred for consideration.
Ad offer of tbe president to defray the balance of the cost of a smoke concert for the visitors attending tbe show was accepted with thanks.
Mr Wylie brought forward the matter of local men .accompanying judges in the show ring, claiming that it was prejudicial to the Society's interests. A motion by Mr Ballard, seconded by Mr Wyile, that no person should be allowed to accompany the judge in the ring, except at the judge's own request, was adopted.
